I almost forgot a very important type of Hidden Gem: amazing performers who you may not know, but we think you'll love. When you put "Musical Theater Stars" in your mental search engine, who comes to mind? Ethel Merman? Barbra Streisand? Carol Channing? Patti LuPone? Lin-Manuel Miranda? Hugh Jackman? If the answer is yes, you're not wrong. We love all of those great, famous stars of stage and screen, too. But, what if I told you there is a whole universe just jammed with tons more musical theater performers who are just as talented and magical as those marquee names? They are some of the most sparkling Hidden Gems. In this continuing series of posts, we will look at some of the artists that European audiences may not know, but who make (or made) the musical theater tick. Stay tuned to learn more about people like Karen Morrow, Barbara Cook, Loni Ackerman, Florence Lacey, Lillias White, Max Clayton, Layton Williams and George Lee Andrews. You may not know them now, but we have a feeling you'll love them just as much as we do.
